Before you hire a divorce attorney in New Haven county, you’ll most likely have a consultation. During this consultation, the attorney will ask you questions relevant to your case. The better prepared you are for your consultation, the more productive it will be. Here are some tips for what to bring with you to your consult:

Questions for the attorney: You’ll want to get some information about the attorney you may hire to handle your divorce, so don’t be afraid to have a list of questions you would like to ask. You might want to ask about experience, retainer amount and hourly wage, how long the process could take, etc.

Pay Stub/Tax Return: Your attorney will eventually ask you for financial documents to determine your and your spouse’s financial picture. Try to bring at least one year to date paystub and your tax returns.

Legal Documentation: Bring relevant legal documents like:

  • Pre-nuptial agreement
  • Marriage license
  • Any documents you have been served with
